In the late sixties Hangnail walked into a local record shop and saw his hero Frank Zappa on the cover of an album called "Sandy's Album Is Here At Last" by Sandy Hurvitz. As a card carrying member of "United Mutations", Zappa's fan club, he had heard that this LP was coming and had been recorded in 1967 with Ian Underwood of The Mothers. Though he didn't quite know what to expect, it was purchased and became one of his all time favorite moody melancholy albums. Even before the record was released, Sandy had changed her name to Essra which evolved from the letter "S"... "Ess"... "Essie Mae Hawk"... "Essra Mohawk", and she has been performing under that name ever since.

It was a great thrill for Hangnail to perform one of her songs for her live on the radio. Essra is a true artist expressing her heart and emotion through her music. Her new CD "Love Is Still The Answer" attests that she still has it and comes highly recommended.
